Soda Vending Machine - Future Goals of PepsiCo and Coca Cola

The large soda giants, PepsiCo and Coca Cola have an interesting future ahead of them. So, what exactly are PepsiCo or Coca Cola planning to do, in the future? R. Paul Herman in The HIP Investor has examined that question by looking at the sustainability of both companies, over the long run.

And how does this speak, in a larger sense, to a potential soda vending machine owner? Well, the outlook for sales, product innovations and technology can affect what you can deliver to consumers in terms of products offered.

Coca Cola Co. - The Future

Coca Cola Co's future goals are outlined in its "Commitment 2020" plan; showing the course of the company over the next 10 years. What is included in Coca Cola's plan? They want to reduce the carbon footprint of operations by 15%, locate sustainability in the water resources they use, implement recycling programs, and look at how much overall plastic is included in their bottling practices.

Coca Cola has also stipulated that by 2015 they want to eliminate a reliance on hydro-fluorocarbons (HFCs), which are used in their refrigeration technologies. Coca Cola is pursuing the use of local sourcing of ingredients versus other avenues; for example, where can they source sugar, or corn syrup based on locality.

For the usage of the water resources of the company, Coca Cola used around 300 billion liters of water in 2007. They plan to reduce this number, and in a partnership with the World Wildlife Fund, they have cut down on water use.

PepsiCo. - The Future

In a similar way, PepsiCo. wants to use less water. They have committed to a reduction of the usage of water resources of 20%, by 2015. They also want to reduce the amount of fuel used by their logistics operation for example, by 25%. As well, they want to reduce electricity consumption of facilities by 25%; all by 2015.

For sustainability, Pepsi has recently unveiled a 100% compostable snack bag, which is being used for the SunChips brand. Overall, PepsiCo has some solid targets to hit for the next 5 years.
