Coca-Cola's HFC-Free 'Green' Soda Vending Machines Coca-Cola has just recently unveiled 35 new soda vending machines that feature a HFC-free refrigeration technology, which reduces the carbon emissions of the vending machines by up to 99%. The unveiling was lead by House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD), House Chief Administrative Officer, Dan Beard, and executives from Coca-Cola. The new HFC-free technology is reported to have 1,430 times less global warming impact than typical refrigeration technologies found in soda vending machines. Coca-Cola plans to implement 400 more HFC-free soda vending machines nationwide, throughout 2010. These vending machines were shown earlier this year at the Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver, Canada. Over the course of a lifetime of a vending machine, the new HFC-free soda vending machines are expected to reduce the total carbon emissions per machine by more than five tons.
This is a smaller part of a new green system by Coca-Cola, complete with HFC-free coolers, vending machines hybrid-trucks, trailers, recycling programs and other facilities; Coca-Cola is taking a complete approach to reducing carbon emissions.
