Healthy Vending Machine - Healthier Choices at School Encourage Change

Many schools throughout America are realizing the need for change. One well-known fact is that around one-third of Americans are classified as obese (72 million people). That number is expected grow, including the number of children who are overweight.

Healthy Vending

In response to that, many of the nation's schools are changing the types of food offered, and the availability of vending machines.

Overall, Americans have an increased perception of what is effecting their health; and that change is shown in the increased popularity of the healthy vending machine.

The availability of snacks that promote types of benefits like whole-grains, low fat, reduced calories, no Trans fat, or other nutritional choices, are becoming many "hot topics" in the media, at schools, and of course, nationwide. Now can be the time to invest in a healthy vending machine.

School Campaigns

It is claimed that this could be the first generation of children that will have shorter life span than their parents. Type two diabetes has become more of a concern, especially for children.

In response, school officials, and health advocates are trying to make changes in school systems, and other places. Overall, they want to encourage a healthier lifestyle for children, with a focus on healthier food and drink choices.

Such things that encourage this include the availability of fresh fruit, and vegetables in schools or home eating environments. Healthier choices for vending, include the options available at a healthy vending machine, which are also remarkable encouragement methods.

In schools, children may be presented with a different selection of food, and snacks. Changes include the switch to fresh produce, and even at times, unusual offerings to children; things such as pomegranate, avocado, and plums, for example.

In addition, the switch from canned to frozen vegetable items, whole-grains, and using potatoes instead of instant-mash, makeup the wide variety of changes that are being enacted at some schools.

Another change is the addition of a pizza crust that has whole-grain, and a corn dog with lean chicken, instead of beef, and a whole-grain coating.

Parents are also being encouraged to pack healthy lunches for their children, and to stay away from sugary treats and beverages.
Changes like this are being implemented in certain school districts across Topeka, Kansas, and other places.

Physical Education

The American Heart Association and the Clinton Foundation report that over 90% of elementary schools do not provide a physical education class year-round. As well, only one-third of high school students take a physical education class.

Families are being encouraged to host activity nights, where physical education is the central focus for children.

Senate Bill 499, in Kansas

This bill could impose standards to be set on the snacks, and drinks available to students, from vending machines, and buffet type snack bars in the school districts of Kansas.

Additionally, it would make sure that vending machines meet exemplary standards, according to the Kansas wellness policy. Changes would include the switch from sugary snacks, drinks and high in fat offerings, to things like water, low-fat/skimmed milk, 100% fruit juices, yogurt, fruits and vegetables.

All of which can be vended in a healthy vending machine, depending on what products are required.

Conclusion

It is to be noted that much of the revenue from at least school vending machines will go to funding school activities and other capital endeavors.

For a promising vending entrepreneur, additional markets can be broken into with a healthy vending machine.

Places like gyms, spas, public arenas, offices and public parks can benefit from the choice of healthy vending.
